Weddings and Birthdays

Hi Folks,

Well, we had a wonderful time at the Garden Café last night. Lots of old and new friends came out last night for a standing room only evening. The family of a Grove City bride came in and were a great crowd. We enjoyed playing for you and wish your daughter all the best!

A special thanks to J Randall who went all out in his new seersucker to celebrate J's 45th birthday with a Canned Goods cake. This is what being in a band is all about... good friends (Thanks Randy!)

Bios

J. Randall (One Man Band) Hicks, Jason (Gentleman J) Hudson, Ben (Dubya) Phillips, Rob Stuckert and Josh Wydick are the Canned Goods band. We play early American music: jug band, country, blues, string band, tin pan alley, and viper jazz on five string and tenor banjos, washboards, kazoos, musical saws, double bass and ukuleles.

J. Randall and Jason, the founding members, are both relocated from East Tennessee and were raised on the music we now perform. We discovered our mutual interest in these genres at local music gatherings and decided to form Canned Goods to share our love of this music. Our name, Canned Goods, reflects our down home heritage and preservation of musical genres that would otherwise disappear.

J. Randall lives with his family in Grove City and works for Ohio State University where he uses his background in theater and film to showcase the Ohio Unions as Multimedia Coordinator.

Jason Hudson lives in Upper Arlington with his family and is an elementary school teacher, where he lead the student Ukulele Orchestra for several years. He is now comtemplating teaching all of his students to play the saw, but is consulting attorneys first:)

Ben Phillips is an entomology graduate student at Ohio State. He hales from Michigan and brings his multiple talents on vocals, saw, ukulele, tamburitza and five string banjo.

Rob Stuckert is a first grade teacher in Wilmington, OH (yeah, that's quite a drive) where he lives with his wife and kids (and most of his immediate family). He plays in multiple bands on electric and double bass as well as rhythm guitar.

Josh Wydick is our newest member. You can hear Josh on fiddle, bass and guitar. He's learning the saw.

Natalie Bennett has moved on to greener pastures as a grad student in clinical psychology (a band can do that to you) in Reno, NV. We'll be saving the marimbula seat for her.

Canned Goods has played for ComFest (Columbus, OH), the Garden Cafe on Broadway (Grove City), Clintonville Festiville (Clintonville, OH) the Pump House Art Gallery (Chillicothe), the North Market (Columbus, OH) and the Local Roots Market (Wooster). We have been in numerous blues and old-time bands as well as having busked from Charleston, SC to Columbus, OH.
